Yes, you\u2019re put under, but there\u2019s a major difference: you don\u2019t completely fall asleep during sedation dentistry.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed as being in a \u201ctwilight state,\u201d you don\u2019t necessarily stay awake or go to sleep. You\u2019re relaxed, but not dreaming exciting dreams about being out of the dentist chair. Thankfully, the work gets done while you\u2019re between states of consciousness. You can be easily aroused during the procedure, but don\u2019t worry: you\u2019ll be able to respond to what your doctor asks of you.<\/p>\n<p>Know that there are different levels of sedation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimal      (awake, yet relaxed)<\/li>\n<li>Moderate      (partially awake)<\/li>\n<li>Deep      (almost asleep but still awake)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your anxiety of going to the dentist is high, seriously consider sedation dentistry. Anxiety isn\u2019t an only factor. You should also consider this approach if you have a gag reflex, trouble with a local anesthetic, or experience neck or lower back pain while in a dentist\u2019s chair. It\u2019s important that you\u2019re not embarrassed by thinking about this procedure. What might be only for children is completely understandable and acceptable for adults too.
